Adventure World Gates of Cleopatra Expedition: Everything you need to know

If you're still in the mood for love and romance this month, why not try out one of the new love-themed Expeditions in Adventure World? They deal with Cleopatra, so appropriately, this Expedition is called the Gates of Cleopatra. This is a lovely pink-centric map that gives you six days to finish the three quests within. Let's get started!

Stolen Hearts

Ask friends for 10 Garnet Hearts
Place 10 Garnet Hearts into Statues
    Recover Cleopatra's Bust

Trip has apparently been struck by a love bug, so you'll need to help him break the spell and get back to normal. The Garnet Hearts come from a general news post placed on your wall. This is a fairly long map, but the first few areas are fairly open (that is, lacking in challenges), so you'll have to make it through all of this open space to find the statues at the end that need the Hearts.

By Any Other Name...

Collect 12 Roses from Rose Bushes
    Place 12 Roses in Vases

The Rose Bushes are scattered around the map, but you'll often trigger mummies or other enemies by picking them. Once you've collected some roses, click on empty Vases that are also scattered around the map to fill them.

Trip's Love Bug

Ask friends for 10 Love Letters
Give Love Letters to Trip or Emily

The mailbag at the very beginning of this map provides you with a free Love Letter every 12 hours, but otherwise, you can ask your friends to send you some letters via individual requests.

When you finish this Expedition, you'll still have quite a bit of work to do to finish Cleopatra's event in Adventure World. Stick with us as we continue to bring you guides on finishing the game's Expeditions and much more!

Check out the rest of our Adventure World Cheats & Tips right here.

What do you think of this Cleopatra Expedition / event in Adventure World? Have you already finished this first Expedition in the series?

Zynga Slingo 'Add Me' Page: Make new friends fast!

A new Spanish-themed landmark has launched in CityVille this weekend: the Spanish Opera House. This building is a unique one, in that it can be placed on both land or water (particularly convenient for those running out of land in their city), but ultimately, it doesn't boost the stats of your city that much.

This community building requires plenty of building materials to complete:

    5 Cello
    5 French Horn
    5 Harp
    5 Timpani
    5 Trumpet

These items are earned through a combination of general news items placed on your wall and individual requests sent to friends. You can, of course, also choose to purchase these items with City Cash if you'd rather not wait for your friends to help you out.

Either way, when the Spanish Opera House is done, it will raise your maximum population cap by 500 citizens. That's a fairly tiny amount of people in the grand scheme of things, and it will only offer you 1,000 coins each time you collect its profits. Still, the Spanish Opera House only costs 20,000 coins to purchase, so I suppose if you like the look of this building (it is quite pretty), then it's worth building.

[Via CityVille Wiki]

What do you think of this Spanish Opera House? Will you build one in your city?

You'll soon start a career to afford that car in The Sims Social

It might be time for your Sim to get off of its lazy butt and get a job already. The Sims Social Fansite reports that it has exclusive information regarding an incoming feature to The Sims Social: Careers. According to the fan website, which has accurately predicted several weekly content updates, The Sims Social players will soon be able to assign career paths to their Sims.

The fan website reports that players will be able to choose from a list of Careers for their Sims to follow, with each Career sporting a series of quests. Of course, players will complete these quests to send their Sims up the ladder and ultimately into your their dream job. Careers are nothing new to The Sims franchise proper, but would certainly add a new element of "look what I have/did and you don't/didn't" that drives much of Playfish's hit Facebook game.

Between this, Cars and some mystery feature that could be anything from globetrotting to frictionless friend-adding, one thing is clear: Playfish is well aware that its answer to the Zynga empire is dwindling. And it's willing to do whatever it takes to restore the tens of millions of monthly players lost over the past seven months. OK, well, two things: The Sims Social could make us just as vicarious as the first game ... and the second. (And the third.)

Are you psyched to hear that Careers could be coming to The Sims Social? Which would you want in the game more: Careers or Cars?

Backyard Monsters maker's full 3D RPG will hit Facebook in September

When the leaves fall again, so will your (virtual) 20-sided die. Kixeye CEO Will Harbin told IndustryGamers that the San Francisco developer plans to release its mysterious role-playing game (RPG) on Facebook this September. During the characteristically frank interview, Harbin managed to reveal more details while ripping on Zynga, Kabam and Google+ in the process.

"I think people are really going to be blown away when we launch our RPG in September. It's full 3D in Flash, so hyper-accessible, and it looks awesome in the early play builds we're looking at," Harbin revealed to IndustryGamers. "Our official concept is there's no buying energy to play, you just come in and play it. It looks and feels like a download game."

No buying energy to keep playing? That's music to the ears. Harbin said that the RPG is in development using Flash 11, the latest in the most commonly-used tech behind Facebook games. This will help the nameless RPG be as accessible to as many core gamers as possible. Harbin told us recently that the same game will serve as a launchpad for a much larger-scale MMO (massively multiplayer online game) slated for 2013.

From imminent RPGs to racing games and beyond, Kixeye is dedicated to core browser gaming. "There are no good RPGs in browser, there are no good simulations in browser, there are no good adventure games, and I still think we have a ways to go to get the ultimate persistent RTS," Harbin said. "I think there's a ton of runway in browser if you know what you're doing."

Are you excited to see what Kixeye's upcoming RPG is like? Based on the developer's previous work, what do you expect it to look and feel like?

FarmVille Sneak Peek: Pro Packs offer Unwithers, Turbo Chargers and more

It looks like FarmVille players will soon be rewarded with a slew of free goodies, if information found by FarmVilleFreak is anything to go by. Apparently, something called the FarmVIlle "Pro Pack" will soon launch in the game, giving us a chance to receive Farm Cash, Unwithers, Instant Grows, Turbo Chargers or even farm vehicles (or perhaps just Vehicle Parts).

Will these packs really be free? It looks like they might be, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some sort of catch along the way. Perhaps we'll need to complete a series of goals before receiving a Pro Pack. Or, maybe we'll need to purchase an item with Farm Cash, only to receive the Pro Pack as a free gift-with-purchase. Or, maybe they'll simply be items that only friends can send to each other, limiting the amount each person can receive based on how many active neighbors they have.

Either way, there are way more unknowns associated with the Pro Packs than concrete facts, but we'll make sure to stay on top of things, and will let you know just as soon as the Pro Packs launch, along with how to get your hands on one (or more). Keep checking back with us!

FarmVille Mystery Game (02/19/12): Mardi Gras animals are covered in beads

The Mardi Gras celebration has really come to FarmVille this week, in the form of plenty of animals in the new round of the Mystery Game. Specifically, these are relatively normal-looking animals that have put on plenty of beads to celebrate Carnival / Mardi Gras. This week's game costs 20 Farm Cash to play, if you don't have any free darts in your Gift Box, and by throwing a dart at the board, you'll have a chance to win the following:

Beaded Pig
Beaded Pony
Carnival Cat
Carnival Mini Horse
Carnival Pegasus
Carnival Squirrel

As usual, if you can win one of each of these items (which could require a lot of Farm Cash, as duplicate items are possible), you'll win a free Mardi Gras Bird as your seventh prize. Good luck in winning one of each of these items - remember, you'll only have a week to win them all before the game resets, so play now!

What do you think of this week's Carnival / Mardi Gras themed prizes? Which ones did you win on your farm?

Activision Blizzard 'methodically investing in mobile and social gaming'

Can this love-hate relationship between veteran games publisher Activision Blizzard and Facebook games end now? VentureBeat reports that, during an analyst meeting, Activision CFO Thomas Tippl said that the company is "methodically investing in mobile and social gaming projects." Tippl also went into how the publisher could make a whopping $1.25 billion from new projects that seek new, non-traditional sources of revenue like micro-transactions and in-game purchases. You know, like Facebook and mobile social games?

However, there seems to be a major disconnect in the company's overall ideology between executives, unless Activision is simply telling the right folks what they want to hear. Recently, Activision Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg said, "Valuations of some of the companies in that space are out of whack," to Bloomberg at this year's Gamescom event in Cologne, Germany. In the very same interview, Hirshberg hinted that the Call of Duty (pictured) pusher is looking into social games.

And before then, Hirshberg said during the 13th Annual Pacific Crest Global Technology Leadership Forum that, "Call of Duty has more players who pay-to-play online than any Facebook game, and our players pay more per player on average than any Facebook game."

What's even better is that before Hirshberg came to hardcore gaming's defense, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick outright revealed that "a lot of work is being done on Facebook games" within the company. Now, it's completely fine for traditional publishers to get into new distribution models than your tried, true and tired retail stores--just look at, well, everybody else.

However, it seems that at least some Activision Blizzard folks are entering Facebook and mobile games kicking and screaming, based on what Hirshberg has been saying compared to his colleagues. (Though, neither Kotick nor Tippl sound particularly thrilled about the whole ordeal, either.)

That said, the publisher would definitely benefit from a more unified--and a little more chipper, eh?--message if it wants to convince Facebook and mobile gamers to hop on board. And based on the way Activision Blizzard has been talking about its social game efforts, we just can't wait to see these games.

Are you excited or worried to hear that Activision Blizzard is getting into social games "officially?

Smurfs' Grabber latches onto iPhone, iPad with its puffy, white claws

At this point, mobile gamers are blue with Smurf fever after what I like to call "The Summer of the Smurf." To ring out this smurftastic summer with a bang is yet again Beeline Interactive, Capcom's mobile games arm, with Smurfs' Grabber. Released today--for free, mind you--to App Store, Smurfs' Grabber puts players in control of a giant mechanical Smurf arm in what amounts to a grab machine.

Well, a grab machine with a purpose: It's your job to not only grab as many ingredients from the ground within the allotted 60 seconds you have for each session, but to grab the right ones for a series of potions and other items. Between rounds, you can turn in these items in various quantities and combinations to unlock prizes, namely your fellow Smurfs. These Smurfs bring special powers into your gameplay sessions like dropping presents for bonuses or providing extra XP to level up.

As you continue to grab items, you'll notice that the gameplay is bit more complicated than your standard grab machine. The ingredients have a tendency to do as they please, and will rearrange themselves randomly as you attempt to grab them. So, you can likely already imagine that timing is crucial in Smurfs' Grabber. But don't worry, you'll get to improve your grabbing skills across three differently-themed grab machines with Papa, Smurfette and Greedy Smurf.

Smurfs' Grabber in action
The game doesn't have any Facebook features to speak of--though, they're coming soon--but is integrated with Apple's Game Center to spur some competition. Better yet is the promise that, after a future update, you will be able to grab items in Smurfs' Grabber for your village in Smurfs' Village (yo dawg), Beeline's first Smurfs game. While the game isn't much more than an adorable time-waster at the moment, it could become far more useful to you Smurfs' Village fans once the update arrives.

Again, this smurfable (what?) game is free-to-play, but is supported by in-game purchases, a point Beeline makes terribly clear in the game's description on the App Store. A notice even appears the first time you boot up the game, warning you of the many facets of in-app purchases. Remember, parents: iPad games with mommy and daddy only!

Call of Duty lands on Facebook ... in its upcoming Elite social network

Did you know that there is a Call of Duty (CoD) convention now? (And that the Dropkick Murphy's and Kanye West are performing there?) Crazy, we know, but at any rate some vital details about Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty Elite social network were revealed during the event in Los Angeles known as Call of Duty XP, according to VentureBeat.

Most importantly, the social network for all things CoD from consoles to the web and mobile apps will feature Facebook integration, allowing players to invite their friends to become CoD buddies with them. Better yet, you'll even be able to send Facebook friends invites for them to join you while you're playing, which should make it easier to find friends to play with.

We're not at the point of posting Achievements to your News Feed or asking friends to help you build your new gun just yet, but this a major step for a publisher that has yet to submit completely if at all to the allure of Facebook gaming. The service will also be free to use ... sort of.

Activision Blizzard plans to charge players $49.99 annually for an optional premium version of the Call of Duty Elite service. This will give players access to 20 pieces of downloadable content released for the game (including the map expansion packs that go for $14.99 usually), the ability to level up your clans, access to insider tips and video content directed by acclaimed directors Ridley Scott and Tony Scott.

Call of Duty Elite
The freebie players will still have access to multiplayer, stat tracking and the ability to join clans among other features, to which Activision Publishing president Eric Hirshberg added, "We made sure that we didn't take anything away from people who are paying money for the game," according to VentureBeat.

What Hirshberg is saying is that if you choose not to pay the premium subscription fee and buy additional content at your leisure, not much will change for you when it comes to gameplay. Call of Duty Elite, which has been in development at the publisher's Beachhead Studios for two years, is a huge step in the buzzword direction nearly everyone else is headed: social. Though Activision Blizzard does say that it's investing in Facebook games, Call of Duty Elite seems to be a far better gauge of where the company's interests in Facebook lie, at least with the oomph we see from its competitors like EA.

What do you think of this Call of Duty Elite network now that it has Facebook features? Do you think Activision Blizzard should focus on Facebook games more heavily like its competitors, or is this where the company should stop?

Get Pac-Man on iOS for a buck (in seven flavors) this holiday weekend

So what if you can already play Pac-Man for free on Facebook in two shades of beautiful, monochromatic yellow. What happens when you're on the toi--I mean, in line at the grocery store?

Thankfully, Namco Bandai has slashed the prices of all eight versions of Pac-Man for iOS devices along with a number of classic games the company has ported there for our greasy thumbs to enjoy. And it's all to honor this glorious (if pointless) holiday we Americans call Labor Day. Check out all the games below with links to where they hang on the App Store:

Ace Combat Xi: Skies of Incursion – $4.99 $2.99
    Buccaneer Blitz – $2.99 $.99 [Universal]
    Dig Dug Remix – $2.99 $.99
    Galaga Remix – $2.99 $.99
    Mr. Driller – $1.99 $.99
    Ms. Pac-Man – $4.99 $.99
    Pac-Attack - $2.99 $.99
    Ms. Pac-Man for iPad – $4.99 $1.99
    Pac-Chain Compact – $2.99 $.99
    Pac-Chain – $2.99 $.99
    Pac-Man Championship Edition – $4.99 $.99
    Pac-Man Remix – $2.99 $.99
    Pac-Mania - $1.99 $.99
    Pole Position Remix – $2.99 $.99
    Ridge Racer Accelerated – $6.99 $2.99
    Splatterhouse – $2.99 $.99
    Star Trigon – $1.99 $.99
    Time Crisis 2nd Strike – $6.99 $2.99

It looks like Namco has taken a cue from EA, which is having an equally-tempting holiday sale this weekend. And even if you're over Pac-Man, why not pick up Dig Dug or Galaga--if those games kept you up for hours at night back in the day, what's to stop them now? Just remember to, you know, interact with your friends and family this weekend at the barbecue.

Do you plan on picking up any of the whopping seven versions of Pac-Man available for a dollar this weekend? What's your go-to classic game after all these years, if not Pac-Man?

Big Fish Games Labor Day Sale sees all iOS games priced at $0.99

While EA Mobile is holding an iPhone / iPad sale of their own, I think I have just found one that trumps all others. Big Fish Games, one of the biggest names in the casual gaming space, has price-dropped all of their iPad and iPhone games... Let me repeat - all of their iPad and iPhone games to $0.99.

This deal will only be available until (apparently) the end of the day on September 5, Labor Day proper. While that doesn't give you a ton of time to shop, it doesn't take a lot of convincing to pick up some of these stellar games. To put this awesome sale into perspective, I'll remind you that most (if not all) of Big Fish's iPad games start at $9.99 for the full version. Do the math on this, and you're saving 90% on each iPad game! As for the iPhone games, they start at a price of $3.99 for the full version of each, which makes the $0.99 another great deal, but not 90% off.

If you're a hidden object or puzzle game fan, but may not have much experience with the genre(s), some of my personal recommendations would be to pick up Drawn: the Painted Tower, along with both games in the Empress of the Deep series. Even if these don't do it for you, there are games here combining fantasy and historical themes, and everything in between, so you'd really do yourself a disservice if you didn't at least browse through the available options.

To look at the full list of available sale titles, head over to Big Fish's official website. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some games to download!

Are you a fan of playing hidden object or match-three puzzle games on your smartphone/tablet? Which of these games will you / did you pick up during the sale?

House, CSI: Miami and NCIS games to air on Facebook this winter

Social gamers are naturally very meta people. Come one, who else would watch an episode of CSI, only to play an episode of CSI: Crime City either during the show or afterward? Ubisoft seems to have struck gold with Facebook games based on TV properties, so the company has announced three more: CSI: Miami, House, M.D.: Critical Cases and NCIS: Major Crimes.

Inside Social Games reports that the games will launch either at the end of this year or early in 2012. In other words, they're coming this winter. The games will play out procedurally, like episodes of their television inspirations. Players will search for clues after identifying victims, patients or suspects and solve cases with the help of friends and non-player characters.

The French game publisher also announced a deal with Loot Drop, designer John Romero's studio that has yet to release its first game, Cloudforest Expedition. No details were given regarding the game, but this marks the third game set to come out of Loot Drop, its first two with publisher RockYou. Ubisoft will also release Ghost Recon Commander for Facebook.

The game will serve as a companion to the publisher's two upcoming Ghost Recon games: Ghost Recon: Future Soldier for console and Ghost Recon: Online for PCs. According to ISG, players will be able to advance in either core game through the Facebook companion and vice versa. We've seen how high-profile companion games do already, but House is poised to be a winner--have you seen how many "Likes" it has on Facebook?

Are you excited by any of these announcements by Ubisoft? Which of these games do you think will do best on Facebook?

Jurassic Park to (hopefully) bring Mr. DNA to mobile, Facebook in 2012

It's just not Jurassic Park without the little guy. Ludia, the Vancouver-based creator of branded Facebook and mobile games like Family Feud and Who Wants to be a Millionaire, has announced that it will bring a Jurassic Park social game to mobile devices in 2012. This deal with Universal Studios marks the company's move into the movie industry through branded games.

"This exciting license is our gateway to the movie industry and reinforces our strategy of turning high-profile brands into successful interactive entertainment experiences," Ludia CEO Alex Thabet said in a release, according to Inside Social Games. But it sounds as if the game will be far less about dinosaurs wreaking havoc than about keeping dinosaurs in check.

In other words, it's going to be another property management game. (Ugh.) Ludia will throw players onto the ill-fated island shortly after the events of the first movie, and they'll be able to help rebuild Jurassic Park into a thriving, money printing machine. What sounds most interesting is the ability to breed dinosaurs using new DNA strands discovered in pieces of amber. See? There's no way Ludia can leave out Mr. DNA now.

Of course, players will need to seek the help of their Facebook friends to keep dino-related disasters from happening and more tourists forking over the cash. The game has yet to receive an official title, and will release on mobile devices before hitting social networks like Facebook.

Are you excited to see Jurassic Park become a social game? What are your thoughts on branded mobile and social games?

The Peanut Gallery runs Snoopy's Street Fair on iOS Nov. 17 [Video]

We're not usually the type to fawn over game trailers, but after hearing that lovely piano tune it's hard not to. Capcom and Beeline Interactive's Snoopy's Street Fair is set to launch on the App Store for free Nov. 17, TouchGen reports. At first glance, the game looks a lot like Beeline's Smurfs' Village. And, in theory, it probably is. But what's important here is the authenticity.

Seeing the game in motion looks like the strip come to life. (You know, aside from the TV specials.) Everything from the hand drawn graphics to the interface looks as if the venerable Mr. Schulz drew the artwork himself for the game. Players will help Chuck and the gang throw their own street fair, complete with attractions like Lucy's Psychiatric Help and lemonade stands.

The game looks like just another property management underneath the layer of nostalgia, but Beeline has mixed things up with a slew of mini games. Players will get to roast marshmallows, mix watercolors and squeeze lemons for lemonade in unique, timed romps for the high score. It looks like the game will have a number of collectible draws as well.

Capcom made a smart move getting into the branded games biz when it did, as IndustryGamers reports the Japanese publisher suffered a 28.1 percent loss in revenue year over year. Despite this, the company hailed mobile social game Smurfs' Village as the "driving force" behind an 89 percent jump in net sales since last year. Hey, if that means more adorable nostalgia fests like this, then count us in.

Are you going to download Snoopy's Street Fair when it launches next month? What do you think of Capcom's approach to mobile social games?

Ultima creator Richard Garriott runs social game studio with ... a robot?

At this point, with a guy who flew into space and once ran the craziest haunted house in the nation within his house, I guess you should expect these things. The Huffington Post reports that Richard Garriott, creator of the famed Ultima PC game series and co-founder of social game studio Portalarium, manages his Austin, Texas-based studio remotely ... with a robot. Seriously.

Since July of this year, Garriott has conversed with Portalarium's 25 employees in meetings and casually (the robot is a mobile, remote-controlled machine equipped with cameras and microphones) from his New York home. According to The Huffington Post, all he needs is a broadband connection, his laptop, a microphone and two cameras to make it work.

"When I'm up north, I log in in the morning and can meander over to anyone's desk and really be a part of the casual conversations that are so essential to our work," Garriott told The Huffington Post. "Sometimes I feel like a spy, but fundamentally it feels like I am really there." But the game industry veteran didn't buy the $15,000 Anybot QB solely for this job.

When Garriott married his wife earlier this year in the spring, he purchased the robot to ensure that his mother could participate in the ceremony and reception, which took place in Paris. The game designer strapped a cardboard cut-out of his elderly mother to the robot, gave her the controls from her Las Vegas home and it was as if she was there. Hey, at least we now know how dedicated Garriott is to Portalarium's upcoming crown jewel, Lord British's New Britannia (and his mum).

What do you expect will come of Garriott's reportedly ambitious social game? Do you think the designer can strike gold here like he did back in the '80s and '90s on PCs?

Sumon is Tetris-meets-math class on Facebook, Chrome and mobile

If there is one game genre that will likely survive them all, it's puzzlers. San Francisco-based Ludei claims to be one of the first social game developers to launch a game on Facebook, Chrome, HTML5, iOS and Android. The game is called Sumon, a puzzle game that evokes feelings of Tetris, but with math-centric gameplay that's said to serve well as a mind sharpening tool.

The game combines simple math problems through addition with spatial reasoning. Players are presented with a series of blocks, each with specific numbers on them, and a goal number. It's up to players to string blocks together to reach that goal number. Of course, the game sets players against the clock, adding numbered blocks until each level is cleared.

"Sumon is the first in a series of titles that is going to take advantage of bleeding edge innovation in mobile entertainment as we plan for a bigger footprint in the U.S. and worldwide," Ludei CEO Eneko Knorr said in a release. "By launching on HTML5, iOS and Android, we're able to bring Sumon to the largest possible audience, a sentiment that is often discussed but rarely executed-until now."

It's certainly a novel strategy in the social games world where the pressure to go multiplatform or go home is increasing. There are three modes of play in Sumon: classic, progressive and respawn. But generally, the more numbered blocks you use to reach a given goal number, the higher your score will go. But really, we're just digging the paper mache art style--so pretty.
